<a name="adult">Adult Content</a>

This game is for legal adults only. Please no minors. If you are younger than 18 years of age, there are numerous safe environments for you to participate in online, this MU* - unfortunately, for minors - cannot be guaranteed as one. Any minor who disguises his age for the purpose of playing the game is outside our control, and we can take no responsibility for what he or she sees and experiences in-game.

<a name="multi">Multiplaying</a>

Players may have up to 4 characters at one time, and any combination of these may be online at the same time. Characters belonging to the same player may not be associated in any way - not through background stories, not through role play, but most especially not for convenience when it would be handy for one of your PCs to know what another of your PCs does.

A player may have as many changelings or mages as he desires up to the 4 maximum slots, however, we run on a "one per tradition, one per kith" rule. You can have two mages, but not two Verbenas - or two Dreamspeakers. You can have two changelings, but not two trolls.

Quote:
A quick note on Multiplaying:

Players can have as many characters online and IC at a time as they can manage, so long as the two (or however many) characters don't interact with one another In-Character.

<a name="home">Home-Field Advantage</a>

A bonus of 5 extra freebies is allotted to players who apply with a character who is from New Orleans. A game tends to lose a portion of thematic feel when every person you meet within it is from another country, even some other city in the United States instead of the city the game is set in. The 5 freebie advantage is given in effort to encourage building a New Orleans with people from New Orleans in it, without penalizing outsiders.

<a name="magesphere">Mage Tradition Spheres</a>

Akashic Brotherhood: Sphere – Mind
Celestial Chorus: Sphere – Prime
Cult of Ecstasy: Sphere – Time
Dreamspeakers: Sphere – Spirit
Euthanatos: Sphere – Entropy
Order of Hermes: Sphere – Forces
Sons of Ether: Sphere – Matter
Verbena: Sphere – Life
Virtual Adepts: Sphere – Correspondence

Hollow Ones and Orphans: Sphere - None. Choose a primary Sphere on your application. You may still get the extra 1 point used for Tradition Spheres dedicated to that Sphere.

<a name="pdice">The pdice system</a>

Players may roll their own dice for everyday situations - hunt rolls, alertness rolls, empathy rolls, etiquette, subterfuge, seduction, self control, courage etc - by using the pdice command. A good rule of thumb to divide what is allowed for players to roll among themselves and what is not - a player may roll any single action which does not involve use of supernatural abilities, or inflicts violence upon another character.

Rolls to attack or use supernatural abililites must be requested to the Storytellers, who will roll for you behind the scenes and give you the result of the roll (not the successes earned, but the information gleaned or the result of the attempt). If a Storyteller cannot be reached after 5-10 minutes, players may proceed with rolling supernatural powers or single attacks with the consent of the affected players in the scene. All such incidents must be logged and sent over PM to the 'admin' account on the forums.

Combat scenes must be run behind the MU*-version of a Storyteller-screen by a Storyteller save in the event that a Storyteller cannot be reached for 20 minutes of attempting to find one. In that case, with consent of every player involved in the combat situation, a single player may run the combat for the scene using pdice. The entire scene including rolls must be logged and sent over PM to the admin account.

Quote:
A quick note on PrP and pdice:

Storytellers are not required for any part of Player-run-Plots. The player organizing and running the plot acts as Storyteller in every respect, and by joining the plot a player consents to the Storyteller-player's interpretation of WW rules and discretions.

<a name="rec">Recommendations</a>

After every scene of roleplay, it is customary to submit a recommendation for the other players in the scene, selecting a pose you believe to be the most worthy of an XP award from the entire scene. The recommendation system is an in-game feature used through the 'rec' command. The syntax is simply 'rec <player> <pose>'. "Help rec" in-game has more detail on what is required of recommendations, and what all may be recommended.

Quote:
Syntax:

rec <playername> <pose>

<a name="restrict">Restricted Stats</a>

The following are disallowed stat levels:

- More than one attribute at 5.
- More than two abilities at 5.
- More than one Background at 5.

This is for the sake of plausibility at creation. Player-characters are expected to exceed these limitations in-game, due to being, by design as PCs, superior to your run of the mill every-day supernatural.

<a name="retainers">Retainers (Background)</a>

Our template set-up for retainers differs from the core books. They can be found below:

- Players can use their XP in-game to buy traits on their Retainers in the same way they would the PC who "owns" him.
- Max of 3 points in Retainer for single Retainers.
- For 3 point Retainers - Mortal PC template. Flaw points don't add additional freebies.
- For 2 point Retainers - 6/4/3 Attr, 11/7/5 abil, WP per virtues, 6 virtues, 10 freebies.
- For 1 point Retainers - 5/4/3 Attr, 9/5/3 abil, WP per virtues, 5 virtues, 5 freebies.

Part Two: Rules to Read After Classing

Table of Contents:

- <a href="#homes">Character Homes - Building Requests</a>
- <a href="#consent">Consent</a>

<a name="awakening">Awakening In-Game</a>

Characters are granted Arete 1.

Characters gain two spheres upon Awakening. Most commonly, the spheres will be split as 1 in the character's new found Tradition or in the character's Mentor's primary sphere, with the second being of the player's chosing. In instances where the character Awakens as an orphan, the Storyteller chooses one that fits the Awakening and the player chooses the other.

At the Storyteller's discretion the player may purchase an Avatar rating (typical Background cost) or Awareness (typical Ability cost).

Willpower must be at 5 to Awaken.

At the time of Awakening the new Mage may purchase one Merit with XP, or choose to purchase the Merit by balancing it out with a new Flaw.

<a name="pdeath">Character Death and Retirement</a>

In the event that one of your characters dies, you can transfer 1/2 their total XP (unspent) to your next character of that type - i.e., the XP of your dead mortal can only be used for your next mortal, the XP of your dead Vampire can only be used for your next Vampire, and so on.

You can also retire a character before their death to use them for XP. This removes them from play, permanently. Sometimes, with the player's consent, a retired character might become an NPC.

<a name="homes">Character Homes - Building Requests</a>

Characters with a place to live, be it a hole in the ground or a penthouse suite, may send in the descriptions for their homes to projectfictioncontact@gmail.com. The resources of the character will usually give a basic idea of how many rooms the home should be, but if you have a sweet idea for a sewer-tunnel abode that's some 20 rooms, we have no problem with it. Just use your judgement and do whatever is applicable for your character.

In addition, characters staying at an NPC's home (Allies of theirs, family, contacts, or even some random NPC acquaintance they've decided to toss into their roleplay) need only describe the home and send it in. The more detailed and personal the map, the better, so don't hesitate to desc up the box you're living in as a Bonegnawer.

Details on security measures in homes should be detailed for your character's protection, as if we don't know he has a security camera in his entry hall, we can't really say after-the-fact to somebody that has broken in that they were caught on camera after all.

There is no minimum number of hours required for a player to request a home.

Basic guideline, exceed where applicable:

Resources 0: 1 room.
Resources 1: 2 rooms.
Resources 2: 4 rooms.
Resources 3: 6 rooms.
Resources 4: 8 rooms.
Resources 5: 10 rooms.

<a name="consent">Consent</a>

This is perhaps the most important policy here. Mutual consent as to consequences and liability is vital to the function of this MU* and the roleplay within it. As such, we hope to have a clear and concise consent policy.

- All players are automatically assumed to have consented to any and all IC consequences that result from involvement in a staff-run plot or event. There are no exceptions to this rule. Your character may die, or worse, in any staff-run situation. Ignorance is not a reasonable excuse for avoiding any such consequences. If a player feels they have been somehow persecuted by a staff member, the situation no longer falls under our consent policy - please then refer to the OOC Disputes section of the House Rules.

- By creating a character on this MU*, you have automatically consented to our interpretation of the rules of White Wolf's varying systems. People read things differently, but in the end, staff is staff, and we make final calls on all such rules. Arguments that impede the flow of RP will result in temporary removal from the map to give you time to 'cool your heels'.

- Player vs. Player consent: Finally, in any and all situations of players roleplaying with each other where a Storyeller is not present (including player plots), players may choose to non-consent to anything they deem questionable. However, there is one exception to this, and a way to appeal it. First, if a player is attempting to do something to another character (Kill them, for example), then they have automatically consented to that being done to their character in that situation. Second, for appeals, if another player feels that consent is being abused, or might be abused in a delicate or otherwise important situation -- they should call in a Storyteller, in which case staff-plot Consent policy would apply automatically.

Basically, you are free to do whatever you would like, roleplay anything that you would like, make vast assumptions about everyday NPCs anywhere and anytime should it fit your scene. However, if one or more players in the scene have a problem with it, a Storyteller should be called in.

<a name="time">Dramatic Time</a>

Generally, we ignore such concerns as travel time and other mundane interludes that would be skipped over at the game table. As a rule, you can ignore the difficulties of coordinating travel and its time requirements, with RP - if your character was last spotted on one side of town and a scene's happening on the other, no one's going to ask how you crossed the miles between the two. Other time requirements are slightly more stringent.

No more than a season of time in-character passes per real life month, and usually no less. This is generally only important for long term projects, but it could conceivably become important if, for example, the United Kingdom erupted in to bloody civil war, and every season that passed meant new information on gains and conflicts.

<a name="firearms">Firearms</a>

The maximum damage for any firearm caps at 6. I run it this way in my tabletop games and I've chosen to carry it over to the MU* setting. The maximum damage of 6 applies to things like shotguns and rifles, and everything else is balanced down from the 6 cap.

<a name="actions">IC Actions, IC Consequences</a>

We believe that it is unacceptable and immature behavior to respond to in-character actions with out-of-character actions. If you conflict with another player character and respond by being hostile to the player, that's not okay and it's going to get you in trouble if they report it. If you have problems with how a plot is going, be a reasonable person and work it out with those involved. The staff is available if a conflict needs mediation.

Likewise, your in-character actions will lead to consequences in-character. We'll generally give you fair warning to avoid an obvious bad idea, but if you persist in burning down the Courthouse or mass murdering in public, don't be too surprised if someone objects with lethal force.

<a name="numina">Numina</a>

Currently accepted Numina can be found here: http://projectfiction.wikidot.com/mortal

Numina are restricted to "straight mortals" - no Mages. Demonic thralls lose their ability to use Numina powers, but may resume use if the pact is somehow broken.

Mortals with Numina are alotted 5 base points to spend on Numina at classing on two or more Numina abilities. All 5 points cannot be used on one ability.

Numina may be purchased at a rate of 7 freebies per dot, and cost 7x current level to raise in-game with xp.

<a name="prp">Player Run Plots (PrPs)</a>

Player run plots and events are both welcome and greatly desired. When we talk about player-run plots and events, we are referring to any sort of small adventure or other IC event where 2 or more players aside from the one running the plot are actively involved and roleplaying. Anything from a dungeon romp to a fabulous party could count as a player-run plot.

Our policy on these is simple. We heartily encourage them -- players participating in such events will receive the same amount of xp as they would have if they had participated in a staff-run plot, and the player running the plot will also receive a similar amount. We run on an 'ask for forgiveness, not for permission' policy, to encourage people to run plots when the mood strikes. As a rule, you can assume that your plot idea is okay, so long as no nations, religions, gods, or metaphysical paradigms rise up or crumble down.

However, if you run a plot, and it is truly implausible or impossible for us to weave into the game, all events in it will be officially stricken from the record, and your XP reward will be reduced, though not negated, as some of us have a soft-spot for ridiculousness. (If you think your plot might be ridiculous, just ask any ST first and we'll work something out.)

When your event goes through, please submit the complete log of the plot/event to the projectfictioncontact@gmail.com email address (please list all the characters involved, along with your own) and you will be gotten back to about your rewards.

<a name="privacy">Privacy Policy</a>

Player privacy is guaranteed on our game. You will be notified before being snooped, and your scenes are private unless a Storyteller has been requested to enter, or has announced ahead of time that they will be arriving in the room. Storytellers are never permitted to simply sit in a scene unannounced and invisible, and if caught by you or us, will be fired without warnings given.

<a name="intro">Specialties</a>

On the MU*, Specialties add one die to any pool that it is applicable to, as opposed to allowing us to reroll 10's.

<a name="training">Training in-game</a>

The request channel is used to raise all Traits.

<a name="naughty">MUDsex</a>

We aren't going to police whether or not our consenting adult players are writing sex scenes with one another. However, we highly encourage all sexual activity on our grid to be a direct result of IC activity, and make sense for the characters involved. Though we don't forbid or even particularly look down upon MUD-sex, we highly prefer that it not be submitted for pose recommendations.

This is just a note remarking to anyone coming from CbN that while our house rules are drafted from ones you are familiar with, there are key differences. Please do read ours in full before apping in and thank you very much. -R.
