Mages and "Invisible" Effects (Such as Mind 1 or Correspondence 1-2)
After re-analyzing my thoughts on the affliction of Paradox in relationship to effects that cannot be seen or detected by any person - Sleeper or otherwise - but the Mage using the ability, I have decided to put in a house rule of sorts to loosen the hold of Paradox on things that don't necessarily challenge the rules of reality to anyone who believes in them.
Basically, any effect - such as most Mind abilities, Correspondence 1 and 2, for examples - which cannot be detected in any way by anyone but the mage, will no longer accumulate Paradox barring extinuating circumstances (Such a circumstance may be a Mage using Mind 1 to Read the Surface Thoughts of a target and botching, causing the target to feel something untoward happening to his brain that he cannot explain - a case like that would require a Paradox roll as per usual rules, pending ST discretion).
Summary: Sphere abilities which aren't noticeable to outside sources don't challenge the rules of reality because they don't cause disbelief - no one who is aware that the ability is being used has any reason to doubt that it is plausible, and thus (unless outsiders, including other mages and supernaturals) somehow become aware of the use. These abilities will be considered Coincidental Effects for the purpose of Paradox accumulation.
Extra Note: All of this is pending ST discretion, but this the base rule for "invisible" effects.
Mages and The Dreaming
Mages with an Arete rating of 3 or higher appear to Changelings as Enchanted mortals in the Dreaming. They do appear, and seem to coexist between the planes. However, they do not have a mein, they simply transcend the two planes and exist as they appear normally in both.
Mages are not susceptible to Chimerical damage (they take it as bashing or lethal, depending on the nature of the damage), but they may interact with Chimerical creatures and objects. |
